Building the Internationalist Energy Embargo Movement Against Genocide in Solidarity with Palestine
Trade Unions for Energy Democracy (TUED) held its second Inter-Regional TUED South Meeting in Mexico City during the first week of Feb 2025. Between February 4-6, about 120 trade union leaders and allies from 34 countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean gathered in Mexico City to discuss strategies for building a just energy transition in the Global South. A majority of these union leaders represent energy sector unions (namely coal, oil, gas, and electricity). The gathering of internationalist union representatives strategized around Palestine solidarity and the need for an immediate and permanent ceasefire as well as a Free Palestine. Beyond statements, unions – and particularly energy unions- must wield their strategic power to implement a GLOBAL ENERGY EMBARGO for PALESTINE.
The working Group for Energy Democracy was represented by Ilyes Ben Ammar, who gave an inspirational speech which you can find on this video;
“Gloire aux martyrs, salutation à la résistance et VIVA PALESTINA”
“المجد للشهداء وتحية للمقاومة وتحيا فلسطين”
Ilyes Ben Ammar, on behalf of GTDE
“There will be no global climate justice, no global just transition, without the LIBERATION of PALESTINE ”
“لن يكون هناك عدالة مناخية عالمية، ولا انتقال عالمي عادل، بدون تحرير فلسطين”
Hamza Hamouchene, Algerian researcher and activist, head of the North Africa program at the Transnational Institute (TNI)
